Barely 2 months after the NGO visited the damaged spot on the East-West Road around Nkpolu-Rumuigbo Junction and saw for themselves the sufferings which residents and commuters pass through, the group became more determined to visit every office responsible for the construction of this major Road.
Same day, the team led by her President, Chief m Mrs Oby Ndukwe also visited the Rivers State Coordinator of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and after a brief meeting with him where she presented pictures taken on the spot, he informed Citizens Quest that the Ministry was constrained to act until a new Minister was appointed.
Citizens Quest opted to get more information with regards to the challenge being experienced at Nkpolu Junction, the group decided to visit SETRACO office in Elele, Rivers State, the contractor in charge of Section 2 of the East-West Road.
On arrival the Rivers Team was made to understand that the Site Manager was on vacation but the Personnel Manager had little or nothing to tell because he wasn’t the right Officer to meet.
The group which has become a voice for the Citizens took a trip to Abuja and met with the Operations Manager of SETRACO, Engr. Charbel Eid as well as the two Ministers of Niger Delta Affairs, though unscheduled but very productive.
The Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio promised to come down to the region to see things for himself to enable the Ministry have an informed position of things.
True to his words, he came alongside the Minister for State of Niger Delta Affairs, Festus Keyamo and the Ag. Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Mrs. Akwagaga Enyia, and met the residents and commuters of the Nkpolu-Rumuigbo Area who were happy irrespective of the long wait.
Akpabio reassured them that the Federal Government is determined to alleviate their sufferings in making sure that the road is permanently fixed as any temporary solution will still fail. He also called on the Rivers State Government to partner with the FG to bring to an end the challenge on that portion of the road by removing the building sitting on the Water Channel which was approved by the State Government.
Citizens Quest was on ground led by the Vice-President, Comr. Endwell Chukwu to bring to the public the news of the Ministers visit.
“As an NGO, we will continue to speak for the region until we see that the needed development is achieved,” he said.
