Rivers State Police command say Eight (8) persons were killed in suspected cult clash in Mgbuodohia, Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor LGA. Spokesman of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, noted that numbers of casualties stemming from the clash are still being counted.
Residents say eight (8) persons were killed in the incident. It was gathered that some of the victims were killed in their rooms while others were hit by stray bullets when the rival cult group stormed the community.
It was also gathered that trouble started on Thursday last week, when members of two cult groups who went to demand illegal levy popularly called ‘marching ground’ from a land developer, clashed in the bush in the community.
A resident said the incident is not a communal conflict but a supremacy tussle between two rival cult groups in the community. He also said the situation has caused many residents to flee the community over fear of reprisal attacks.
Residents have begun fleeing the area following the brutal killings. According to the residents, they are scared that there might be reprisal attacks by the warring cult groups which will lead to the deaths of many more people.
Why has cultism continued unabated?
